Wyoming CDL practice test
Getting a commercial driver's licence in Wyoming starts with the CDL knowledge tests. The content is federal: every state, Wyoming included, writes its tests from the FMCSA CDL manual, so the general knowledge test has 50 questions, the endorsement tests have 20 to 30, and the passing score is 80% on each. The Wyoming driver licensing agency administers the test; the rules behind it are published by the FMCSA. Try the free Wyoming CDL practice questions below, then pick a full test.

Five questions from the general knowledge, air brakes and combination vehicles banks, the three tests most Wyoming Class A applicants take first. Show the answer to read the explanation.
After raising the landing gear all the way up, you should:
- Secure the crank handle and check for enough clearance between the tractor and the landing gear and trailer
- Lower it halfway again for stability
- Leave the crank hanging so it is easy to find
- Remove the crank and store it in the trailer
Show answer
Answer: A. Secure the crank handle and check for enough clearance between the tractor and the landing gear and trailerA loose crank handle can swing and injure someone or be lost. Also make sure the tractor frame will clear the landing gear and that the rear of the tractor will clear the trailer in a tight turn.

Where should you uncouple a trailer?
- On soft ground so the landing gear sinks in and holds
- On a slight slope so the trailer rolls clear
- On firm, level ground, with the tractor and trailer in a straight line
- Anywhere, as long as the trailer brakes are set
Show answer
Answer: C. On firm, level ground, with the tractor and trailer in a straight lineSoft or uneven ground can let the landing gear sink and the trailer fall over. A straight line keeps the kingpin from binding and lets you pull out cleanly.

To ease the pressure on the fifth-wheel locking jaws before you unlock them, you should:
- Pull the tractor forward hard
- Raise the landing gear while the engine idles
- Release all the brakes and let the trailer roll
- Shut off the trailer air supply, back the tractor up gently against the kingpin, then set the parking brakes
Show answer
Answer: D. Shut off the trailer air supply, back the tractor up gently against the kingpin, then set the parking brakesPulling out the red knob locks the trailer brakes. Backing gently against the locked trailer takes the load off the jaws so the release handle moves easily.

When uncoupling, you should chock the trailer wheels if:
- The trailer has no spring brakes, or you are not sure whether it does
- The trailer is empty
- It is raining
- You plan to reconnect within an hour
Show answer
Answer: A. The trailer has no spring brakes, or you are not sure whether it doesWithout spring brakes, the trailer's brakes can leak off once the tractor is gone. Chocks keep the trailer from rolling, and they cost nothing compared with a runaway trailer.

When pulling the tractor out from under the trailer, why should you stop with the tractor frame still under the trailer?
- So the air lines stay connected
- So the fifth wheel stays greased
- So the trailer will not fall to the ground if the landing gear collapses or sinks
- To let the trailer brakes cool
Show answer
Answer: C. So the trailer will not fall to the ground if the landing gear collapses or sinksPull partially clear, then stop and inspect the landing gear and the ground under it. Only when you are sure the trailer is supported should you pull the tractor all the way out.

How the Wyoming CDL knowledge test works
You take the general knowledge test first; it is required for every CDL class. Class A drivers add the combination vehicles test. Almost everyone takes the air brakes test, because skipping it puts an air brake restriction on the licence. Endorsements (hazmat, tanker, doubles/triples, passenger, school bus) each have their own knowledge test. Pass the tests and you hold a commercial learner's permit; the skills test in a truck comes later.
Fees, appointment rules and test centre locations are set by Wyoming and change over time, so check the state driver licensing agency before you go. What does not change is the content, and that is what PassRig drills.
Wyoming CDL test questions
How many questions are on the Wyoming CDL test?
The Wyoming CDL general knowledge test follows the federal model: 50 questions, 40 correct to pass. Endorsement tests are shorter: air brakes 25, hazmat 30, and combination vehicles, tanker, doubles/triples, passenger and school bus 20 each.
